Community Academy Council Members

Kathryn Nicholas (Chair) – Kathryn sits on the Curriculum and Standards Committee and is one of the Local Board members linked to the School development priorities for English and Leadership. Kathryn has worked in a variety of primary schools both small and large. During her career she was a deputy head in several schools and a head teacher before becoming a School Improvement Partner for Wiltshire. Kathryn has also been involved with national literacy projects. Since retirement she has helped in Christian Malford School on a weekly basis. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, walking, music, her gardening, and lots of other things!

Emma Turtle – Emma is Community Member for Somerfords’ Walter Powell School.  She sits on the Curriculum and Standards Committee and is one of the Local Board members linked to the School development priority of Early Years Foundation Stage and Pre Schools. Emma has one child at Somerfords’ Walter Powell School and one at the Pre-school.  She and her family have lived in the village of Great Somerford for many years and are keen to support our Pre School, Primary School and our local community.  She has worked for a large local company for most of her career, gaining skills in operational, project management and business analysis.

Foundation Academy Council Members

Julia Harle (ex-officio) – Julia Harle is recently retired from teaching. She has worked in education for 22 years and has been a headteacher in both village and town primary schools for 12 years. She has lived in Seagry since 2001 and is an active member of St Mary’s Church, Seagry. Julia is passionate about primary and early years education and the role of village primary schools in their local community. She is a Trustee of The Rise Children’s Centre and is Chair of Chippenham’s Multi Agency Forum. She loves to garden, read and spin (wool). Julia is Chair of the Curriculum and Standards Committee.  Julia is one of the Local Board members focusing on the school development priorities related to Pupil Attainment and SEN.

Anne Owens – Anne sits on the Resources and Pay Committee and is one of the Local Board members linked to the school development priorities for Curriculum and Christian Distinctiveness. Anne worked for 32 years in Primary Schools in England and Wales. Her passion has always been Early Years and Infant education and she spent the final 9 years of her career as Headteacher of a large Infant School where she was also SENCO. After retirement she lived for 10 years with her husband in France. They moved back to live in Christian Malford 18 months ago, to be nearer family. Anne is a practising Christian, supports Scripture Union and attends Ladyfield Evangelical Church in Chippenham.

Parent Academy Council Members

Benn Griffin – Benn has a child in Reception and KS2 at Somerfords’ Walter Powell School.  He has been a secondary school maths teacher for 16 years and is currently an assistant principal leading on data and student outcomes at a school in Swindon.  Benn is also interested in supporting his local community.  He is passionate about teaching and values our education system.  Benn is on the Curriculum and Standards Committee and is one of the link Local Board members linked to Safeguarding and SEN.

Andrew Barry – Andrew has two children in Seagry Primary School, with a third about to join the pre-school.  He works in financial services as an actuary, having gained experience across both large and small organisations. He is enthusiastic about bringing this experience to the board. Andrew’s passionate about creating opportunities to fulfil potential having mentored and managed for a number of years.
