Role of the Local Governing Body

The role of governors within the Blue Kite Academy Trust is to provide focused governance for the school at a local level. This involves monitoring the school’s key performance indicators and provide appropriate support and challenge to the headteacher. Governors will also play a part in representing the views of the school’s stakeholders – parents, staff and pupils as well as the local community. Details of what has been delegated to the Local Governing Bodies can be found in the document called The Scheme of Delegation.

What are the Governors's core functions?

  • ensuring clarity of school vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • holding the Head of Schools to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • implementing leadership and management plans made by Blue Kite Academy Trust.

How is the Local Governing Body structured?

The LGB is made up of:

  • the Headteachers
  • one Staff Governor (elected by school staff)
  • one Parent Governor of each school (elected by school parents)
  • Foundation Governors (appointed by the Diocese of Bristol)
  • Co-opted Governors (appointed by the LGB)

The standard term of office for a governor is four years. Governor meetings are held at least 6 times per year.
